Afghan official: 3 die in Kunduz suicide bombing
Posted: 7/31/2010

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — A former militia commander who supported the Afghan government has been killed along with two others in a suicide bombing in northern Afghanistan.

Deputy provincial police chief Abdul Rahman Haqtash says a suicide bomber blew himself up Saturday night at a football game in Kunduz city, killing the former commander, his bodyguard and an Afghan policeman.

Ministry of Interior spokesman Zemeri Bashary says 19 other people, including children, were injured in the attack shortly before 7 p.m.

The deputy police chief says the commander, known only as Selab, was the target of the attack.

He says the Taliban planted a mine near Selab's house about four months ago. Selab survived that explosion, which killed one other person and wounded two others.
