Damage to roads, bridges and communications networks has been hindering rescuers, and the army has sent more than 30,000 troops to help. Floods have also hit neighboring Afghanistan, where at least 64 people have been killed and hundreds of homes destroyed.

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — A suicide bomber in northern Afghanistan has killed three people, including a former militia commander who supported the Afghan government. Police say the bomber blew himself up at a football game in Kunduz city. Nineteen other people were injured in the attack, some of them children.

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexico's federal police have rescued two kidnapped cameramen who had been held by a drug gang for five days. The cameramen were abducted along with a reporter from Televisa after leaving a prison where they had been covering a protest against the arrest of the warden. A newspaper journalist was abducted the same day in the same city. It's not clear whether he was also rescued today.

LONDON (AP) — Despite the nickname, the Atlantic Ocean is much bigger than a pond. But that doesn't mean it can't be crossed in a row boat. A four-man team today broke a 114-year-old record for crossing the Atlantic from New York to Britain, rowing some 3,262 miles in just under 44 days. That topped the previous record by 11 days.
