WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama says he has "a bunch of ideas" for reducing the federal deficit. In a taped interview with CBS, Obama says if Republicans denounce the deficit but reject proposals to cut it, he'll call their bluff. Many analysts say spending cuts and tax increases are needed to tame the deficit, but Republicans generally oppose tax increases.
NOWSHERA, Pakistan (AP) — Floodwaters are receding in Pakistan's northwest, as the country tries to come to grips with the scope of the devastation. Officials say more than 800 are dead, roads and communications networks have been damaged, and disease is becoming a concern. ROME (AP) — An anti-death-penalty group says the number of executions in Iraq has risen dramatically, with at least 77 people executed since the start of 2009. The group says the United States carried out 52 executions last year. The reports says China is by far the world's top executioner, putting about 5,000 people to death, or 90 percent of all capital punishments worldwide. RHINEBECK, N.Y. (AP) — A temporary no-fly zone is in place over Rhinebeck, N.Y., where Chelsea Clinton is getting married this evening. Planes won't be allowed to fly over the site until 3:30 tomorrow morning. Travel is also being restricted on roads near the Hudson River estate where the big event is taking place. BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — There can be unintended consequences of going green. A newly opened paintball course in Montana created an environmentally friendly paintball using vegetable oil. The problem was, it attracted grizzlies and other bears. Some bears were even eating unexploded paintballs. The course has shut down until it comes up with new paintballs that bears don't like.
