Mesick Alumna Gives Students The Gift of Clear Vision

Posted: Updated:

A Mesick native gave back to her community in a big way Monday, helping dozens of children see life in a new way.

Sarah Hinkley worked with Ferris State University and the Lions Club of Mesick to distribute eye glasses to 37 students who really needed them.

Hinkley is an assistant professor in the Michigan College of Optometry and was told of the need in her old stomping grounds for better eye care.

With no eye doctor in town, she agreed.

Her students performed eye exams on 47 students from Mesick earlier this month, and Monday everyone got to see the fruits of her labor.

Hinkley hopes to expand this program, Students In Need Of Eye Care, in the future.

She says each child should see an eye doctor at least every two years.
